– Migrant (5:22) –

(Pietro Cottone)

This song is about migration. It is the story of an African migrant who is about to cross the sea to escape from war and poverty. The migrant does not know whether the sea will bring death or a new life. While uncertain of the future, the migrant crosses the sea knowing what has left behind: the roots.

Lyrics:

That’s the sign, it’s time to go

In a bag my whole life, let’s go

What’s the price to chase a dream?

To turn over that new leaf?

The captain has never sailed a ship

I wonder if I’ll reach the shore

What’s the price to stay alive?

What’s the trade to keep on trying?

What I’ll find out there?

My future is where?

What I‘m gonna find out? I don’t know

But my life is here

My roots are here

My past and my soul will not go

Lower deck is packed and grim

I touch, and breathe the gasoline

Death or freedom, what’s the sea?

What’s the price to set me free?

What I’ll find out there?

My future is where?

What I‘m gonna find out? I don’t know

But my life is here

My roots are here

My past and my soul won’t let go

Through the rough waves of the sea

I escape from war and misery

Through the rough waves of despair

I’m trying to find another trail

What I‘m gonna find out, I don’t know

But my life is here,

My roots are here,

My past and my soul can’t let go

My past and my soul can’t let go
